A brief description of Montefalco...
"Ringhiera dell'Umbria" (Railing of Umbria) is the definition associated with Montefalco, because from atop its walls, the view expands across the entire fertile Umbrian valley. Besides Perugia and Spoleto you can see Foligno, Bevagna, Trevi, Gualdo Cattaneo, Giano dell'Umbria, as well as the silhouettes of Monti Martani, Monte Subasio and Appennines, the summit of Monte Vettore and the meandering beds of the Clitunno and Topino. And it is precisely in this amazing position that the "Residenza a Cortignano" welcomes you to enjoy the beauty of Umbria.
Surrounding Montefalco are olive groves and "bone e belle vigne" (beautiful and mouth-watering vineyards), as Piccolpasso wrote back in the 16th century, that paint the countryside and run up alongside the settlement.  From these come famous wines, such as "Sagrantino", among the most well-known and highly-regarded wines in Italy.


Historical and Artistic Notes
The city of Montefalco, built in this strategic location during the Roman era, and easily recognized by the Medieval turreted walls that defended it, but is also a true treasure chest of art and of spiritual life illuminated by the mystic figure of Chiara. Benozzo Gozzoli, "pittore costumatissimo e vero cristiano"(incredibly moral painter and a true Christian), as he was called by Vasari, left in the church of S. Francesco, now a museum, a marvelous series of frescoes that narrate the life of St. Poverello. The Umbrian school, from Melanzio to Tiberio d'Assisi, is gathered in that same museum, in one of the numerous urban churches, at S. Fortunato, isolated between ever-green holm-oaks.
