HISTORY Corsa dei Ceri history is one of the oldest of Italy. There are two hypotheses about It: one is religious the other pagan. The religious one goes back to Patron Saint Ubaldo and his date of death: 15th of May 1160. The pagan one goes back to the celebration of Cerere, goddess of the harvest. THE CERI Wood structures. They transport the Saints across Gubbio: S. Ubaldo (Patron Saint of Gubbio) masons, S. Giorgio merchants and S. Antonio farmers.
This medieval castle near Assisi of 1232 has kept intact all its unique characteristics: its massive stone walls; the central structure around which the living quarters were constructed; the underground cellars, so typical of the period and carefully restored, which today house the dining area where one may enjoy fine Umbrian cuisine.
