The Pinocchio amusementpark was made in Collodi because it is the town where Carlo Lorenzini, the author of The Adventures of Pinocchio, spent his childhood and later took his pseudonym.
During the construction of the of the Park of Pinocchio, a national competition was launched with the participation of eighty-four sculptors. The victory went to Emilio Greek for the sculpture of Pinocchio and the Fairy and to Venturino Venturi for the Piazzetta of Mosaic, the project was entrusted to the architects Renato Baldi and Lionello De Luigi. Thus in 1956 was inaugurated the "Parco di Pinocchio." Other sculptures were created by Peter Consagra (The Carabiniere, The Cat and the Fox and The Serpent), Augusto and Marco Zanuso Small ( The Great Shark).

The Park of Pinocchio is a celebration of the character of Pinocchio and its author. The park was built between 1956 and 1987 as a theme park for the education of children and it is not the usual amusement park, but rather a place where one has the feeling of living the fairytale over and over again, simply by walking through it inside a path marked by the union between art and nature. In 1951, The publication of the first episode of the fairy tale of Pinocchio celebrated it´s seventieth anniversary and it was then the city council of Collodi decided to create the park.
