The mountains of Buzzati: surprises and emotions between mountain-peaks and enchanted valleys.
Belluno Dolomites National Park was created to protect an area of outstanding landscape of great value and nature. The Vette di Feltre and Monte Serva were already very famous for their flora since the eighteenth century. The presence of rare species and an exceptional variety of environments is due primarily to the geographic location. It lies on the southeastern margin of the Alps in very inaccessible areas, some of which have remained ice-free periods during very cold (glaciations) years, which took place in the Quaternary and the last of which was spent around 10000-12000 years ago.
Rivers and streams
The territory of the park, except for some karst areas of high altitude, is extremely rich in water resources: springs, swamps and waterways including: Cordevole, Mis, Caorame, Stien (tributary of Caorame) Falcini ( tributary of the Mis), Ardo, Bishop, Prampèr (tributary of the Mae) that contribute to the biological richness of the Park. Some of these streams run through deep gorges, and all are subject to seasonal variations of massive scale.
The Lakes
The Park has two lakes: Lake of Stua in Val di Canzoi (City of Cesiomaggiore), and Lake of Mis in the valley (City of Sospirolo).
It is made reservoirs for hydroelectric purposes and are important elements of the landscape, especially the Lake Mis stretching for about 4 km along the valley and is now a classic summer destination, specially on Sundays.
Their presence also helps to increase the diversity of wildlife, just think of its importance for fish and amphibians that breed in the waters of the lakes.
Also many species of birds love these environments, the mallard, for example, overwinter in the lake of Mis.
If you don´t want to go on foot, the park is also full of tracks and Itineraries for...
Cycling
Inside the park you can ride a bike on all state roads, provincial and municipal. Some pastoral forestry roads are closed to passage of bicycles, but most are passable by mountain bike. The transit with bike on smaller trails is prohibited.
Riding
Inside the Park, horse riding is allowed in the zones C and D, which correspond roughly to the valley of Cajada, Val and Val Prampèr of Grisol, the areas around the former mining town of Valle Imperina Cordevole and the valleys, the area of Mis Canzoi, and the areas around the Croce d'Aune pass.
