  Gran Sasso is the highest mountain chain of the Apennines, in Abruzzi and is located entirely on the border between the provinces of L'Aquila, Teramo and Pescara.
  The park Parco Nazionale del Gran Sasso in the north it borders with the territories of Pietracamela and Isola del Gran Sasso of Italy, east to the Gole dei Popoli, it is limited to the south from Campo Imperatore while to the west-north-west border with the mountains Monti della Laga and the Campotosto Lake .

The Gran Sasso of Italy  is an area protected by the establishment of the National Park of Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga.
  From its most distant points, the Passo delle Capannelle to the west and the Gola dei popoli to the south-east, the mountaingroup of Gran Sasso is about 50 km wide.
  The major peaks of the Parco Nazionale del Gran Sasso are located in the northern inner mountain-chain: the Corno Grande, which consists of three main peaks: the eastern (2903 m), the central (m 2893) and greater one, the western (2912 m) which is also the highest peak of all the Apennines and the Corno Piccolo (2655 m). Between the two horns we fin the Calderone glacier, the southernmost glacier in Europe.

HOW TO GET TO THE NATIONAL PARK OF  GRAN SASSO:

From the west(Rome) take the highway A 24 and la A 25, from the north (Teramo, Ancona) take the highway A24 and l'Altopiano delle Rocche, from the south (Naples) direction of Valle Roveto and Avezzano, from the east (Pescara) take the highway A 25.
The buses of ARPA connect all the centers with L'Aquila and Avezzano
