The town of Campello sul Clitunno, famous for its "Fonti del Clitunno" springs, mystically rises up above the dense and flourishing olive groves. Residenza a Campello is located in a typical Umbrian cottage, amidst these delightful and secluded hills. Its 30 hectare olive groves and recently restructured factory on this agricultural farm, produces one of the most famous extra-virgin olive oil D.O.P. (Designation of Protected Origin) of the Umbrian region. Its ideal location in the heart of Umbria makes "Residenza a Campello" farm a great place to begin your daily tour of the most interesting historical sites of this region; Spoleto, Montefalco, Spello, Assisi, Todi, Perugia, Gubbio, and Orvieto. To help our guests enjoy the pleasureable and unpolluted environment of Campello sul Clitunno, (where they can visit the surrounding medieval castles, walk or horse-back ride through age-old woods and olive groves) they can choose from 5 private suites, all with a spectacular view of the olive groves and valley, garden, large swimming pool and for the enthusiastic cook, a barbecue.

Our two and four person suites are equipped with cooking corner, plates and utensils, tablecloth, linen and towels, colour TV, and heater. Some are also equipped with a fireplace. Paying particular attention to the smallest detail, these brick-floored, simply furnished suites radiate the same warmth as living out in the country, in the old days.

Campello sul Clitunno is a small community in the heart of the green, Umbrian hills. Its uniqueness is in its lack of a single urban settlement. In fact, it is composed of several small villages, medieval castles and unexplored touristic treasures, scattered throughout the countryside and forested mountains, each possessing its own distinct people, church, saint, and age-old culture. Most probably of Roman origin, Campello was named after the castle built around 921 by Rovero, the Baron of Champeaux. Situated at the top of a perfectly cone-shaped hill, the original castle and walls are still intact among the visible debris of past battles.
Another medieval settlement of significance is Pissignano, built by Baron Francesco Sansio around 1000. Its typical triangular form, with base facing the valley and peak facing the mountain, is a characteristic of its position on the mountain slope. One of its most charming places is the "Fonti del Clitunno". Until '800, these springs were praised by many writers of ancient history – Pliny the Young, Virgil and Propertius. Later, they inspired famous poets like George Byron and Giosué Carducci.
The river was sacred to the Romans, who built baths, large houses and temples along it in honor of the God Clitunno . One of the most enchanting examples is the “Tempietto sul Clitunno”, preciously built between IV and V century a.C.
