Il Mottarone is a 1491 meter high mountain in the Alps, situated between Lake Maggiore and Lago d'Orta, and is considered one of the most beautiful natural-terraces around Piedmont with a view stretching from the Po Valley to the peaks of the Alps with especially breathtaking views of Lake Maggiore.

You can travel from Turin to Novara, and take the highway exit
Borgomanero (No), through the small town of Armeno (No), while from
Milan and Lake Maggiore, you drive along the A26 road, you pass the exit Brovello
Carpugnino and go up the Borromean road (strada Borromee).

Or on foot, then you park the car in the town Stresa (Vb) and can then test the excitement of climbing or skiing in winter or bike in the spring and summer - and
finally, with a spectacular cable car that in 20 minutes takes you to the top.

Mottarone is not very easily recognized from other mountains because even
this is like many others a hilly mountain mass, that is called Mergozzolo, between Lago Maggiore and Lake Orta, between the provinces of Novara and Verbania, even if its true its peak, by only a few hundred meters, is located in the province of Verbania, in the town of Stresa.

And even if it isn´t among the highest peaks in the Alps, it really is overlooking a spectacular panorama. From the round tops of the mountain, you can enjoy a magnificent 360 degree view from the Maritime Alps to Monte Rosa, over the Po valley and of the "Seven Lakes" (Orta, Maggiore, Mergozzo Biandronno, Varese, Monate, Comabbio). And if it is good weather it is easy to see even the triangular peak of Monte Viso.

Because of its location between Lakes Orta and Maggiore and it is more of a
meeting area (thanks to the high pastures at the top) than a border, it is known as "Mountain of the two lakes."

The winter activities are mainly aimed at families and children and there is a ski school
with more than 20 ski instructors. Alpine skiing, snowboarding and
Snowshoes are the disciplines practiced by the majority of athletes who visit the mountain during the winter season, and more than 40,000 skilift tickets (cards) are sold each winter.
During the summer it is a popular destination for many athletes and tourists who come
for climbing, paragliding, mountain biking down to Stresa and then up again with
cablecar.

There are 21 km of tracks, 7 lifts of 21 different slopes suitable for all levels, from beginners to Expert (8 Blue a little easier, 10 Red medium,  and finally 3 Black tracks for experts)
The variety is rich and there is something for everyone, and for five of the tracks there is the possibility to improve snow layer with artificial snow if the need arises.
