Monte Argentario is a town of 13,062 inhabitants in the province of Grosseto,
located about 45 km south-east of the capital.

The town takes the name of the headland and the two towns are Porto Santo Stefano on the north-western and the eastern shore of Porto Ercole area.



The Argentario promontory is surrounded by the beautiful sea and connected to the coast by tomboli Giannella, Feniglia, and by an artificial isthmus which corresponds to the dam of Orbetello. Argentario is overlooking the sea and with two renowned tourist centers: Porto Santo Stefano and Porto Ercole, these are ancient fishing-villages that has developed tourism as a  main resource.
L 'Argentario attracts tourists for its unique landscape, its marine environment and its mild climate, making it an ideal holiday destination all year round.
For lovers of hiking and mountain biking in the inner area of the promontory there are many paths that rise from the sea through a luxuriant Mediterranean up to 635 meters ( telegraph-peak), offering panoramic views and glimpses of rare beauty. For golf enthusiasts, Argentario Golf Club is a park of 77 hectares with an 18-hole championship-camp (par 71 of 6191 meters) situated in a natural amphitheater formed by olive trees and Mediterranean vegetation and a panorama of extraordinary beauty .

Another feature of the Argentario is to have a great variety of marine environment that can really satisfy everyone. The two TOMBOLI are infact  but two long sandy beaches sheltered by shady pine trees that make these areas particularly quiet, relaxing and with an easy access. While for lovers of the rocky seabed along the Argentario coast we find high cliffs alternate with charming coves and beaches, wild and isolated, more difficult to reach (preferably in a boat and / or dinghy), but in a crystal clear sea. The coast is very irregular and offers divers many dive sites different from each other: the walls, caves, wrecks and dries in a sea full of life.

The Argentario was well known and popular in the antiquity (as evidenced by the Roman villa of Domizi Enobardi at Santa Liberata), and has also kept some " historic gems" like the Spanish forts and watch towers from the time of Status of Deans (XIV century) that defended the territory against attacks by Saracenian pirates.

Regarding the gastronomic aspect, we find a cuisine that manages to combine the natural taste of the earth and sea. The most tipical and exellent dish is the lokal fish soup known as the cauldron, but we musn´t forget  to mention the excellent wine and oil, obtained through the work through the centuries by the lokal inhabitant, far removed in time, they managed with great effort to create terraces for cultivation on this rock called Argentario. Finally, we announce the main event folklore: the Palio Marinaro Argentario that since 1937 every year on August 15 is held in the waters of Porto Santo Stefano.
